Hawaii emergency officials say alert of ballistic missile threat was mistake

HONOLULU — Hawaii emergency officers say an alert of a ballistic missile menace is a false alarm.

The alert said there was a menace “inbound to Hawaii” and for residents to hunt shelter and that “this isn’t a drill.”

The alert brought about a panic when it went to individuals’s cellphones Saturday morning however, shortly after, authorities stated it was a mistake.

Hawaii Emergency Administration Company spokesman Richard Rapoza says it’s not clear what induced the alert to exit.
