LOS ANGELES (AP) — A brand new research finds that greater than 1 / 4 of California schoolchildren between 12 and 17 consider their friends see them as “gender nonconforming,” which means these boys are perceived as extra female and women extra masculine.
Authors of the research, launched Wednesday, say the 27 % of California youngsters perceived as gender nonconforming are extra weak to bullying and different psychological misery.
The College of California, Los Angeles, research is among the many first of its variety within the nation.
Lead writer Bianca Wilson says the research didn’t discover that gender nonconforming youngsters have statistically vital greater ranges of suicide. However, she says they’re greater than twice as more likely to expertise psychological misery — a danger issue for suicide.
Wilson says quantifying such youths is significant to getting them providers.
