City Council overrides veto on skyscraper project

The Providence Metropolis Council has voted to override a mayoral veto in favor of a proposed forty six-story skyscraper.

Council members voted 10-3 throughout a particular meeting Thursday to override Democratic Mayor Jorge Elorza’s veto on a zoning change that may permit the planned Hope Level Tower in Providence.

If constructed, the skyscraper would be the tallest building within the state.

Elorza says City Council “caved to continued political strain,” and that specialists have discovered the venture just isn’t financially viable.

Councilwoman Mary Kay Harris, who originally voted towards the zoning change, says she now believes Hope Tower “represents more alternatives than threats to my group.”

A spokesperson for New York developer Jason Fane says the skyscraper will help move Windfall ahead by means of progress and new improvement.
